I just went back from New York City and would like to wish a happy 2009
and all the best – especially health and satisfaction – to all readers.
Some of you may wonder why these lines appear in English and not
German. It is not a big story, it’s just the second try after the first
one almost 4 years ago to improve my English. As I could see my English
is okay for ordering some food and small talk, but it becomes hard to
understand and mainly to converse with a native speaker going a bit
deeper. And as I also understood – English rules the world. It is the
world’s language in our in fact globalized world and it opens you at
least doors which would be kept close without it.
And in fact seeing some movies in it’s original English setting because
the German translation is a pain in the ass, learning with a
Langenscheidt program and reading some English blogs is not enough to
get saddle-fast.
So I will give it a second try and will wait and see if it will be
successfull or not. If yes I will write all upcoming posts in English,
if not I will switch back to German – that’s it. Until that I ask you
pardon for my bad grammar and all other mistakes while writing :-).
By the way: six months ago I wrote about my impeded trip to the United States.
I now did it the days around New Year’s Eve and visited New York City.
It has been a really great experience to fly over the ocean and see the
„new world“ live and in colour (you can see some pictures of the trip here).
It was just amazing – some people may say Americans are cursory, I just
would it call „nice and friendly“. The two simple phrases „how are you“
and „you’re welcome“ make most things just more relaxed. I look forward
to get snubed by a German salesperson the next days beeing back in „the
old world“ ;-).
And I look also forward to visit the States again next time (I was
really surprised about the emigration process – I indeed had to give
all my ten fingerprints :-(, but the young emigration officer was
friendly and the process itself really professional and quickly done).
